Researcher presents at 2019 GTAC Winter School on Public Economics

Amina Ebrahim, Research Associate of SA-TIED and UNU-WIDER, was invited to give a presentation at the 2019 edition of the Public Economics Winter School. The Winter School is a Government Technical Advisory Centre (GTAC) initiative in collaboration with National Treasury that aims to build public economics capacity. It offers an opportunity for post-graduate economics students and young economists working in Government to engage with senior public sector officials and university academics locally and internationally. This year the thematic focus of the week-long event was Taxation, Education, and Fiscal policy.

The presentation, outlined the SA-TIED programme and how it targets some of the key constraints in the South African economy. The session gave students some insights into the administrative tax data held at the Secure Data Facility in the National Treasury and a taste of the innovative research this data makes possible.
