Spreading the gains? Prospects and policies for the development of regional value chains in southern Africa

SA-TIED researchers Anthony Black, Lawrence Edwards, Faizel Ismail, Brian Makundi, and Mike Morris will present their working paper on Spreading the gains: Prospects and policies for the development of regional value chains in southern Africa as a part of the SA-TIED Seminar Series.

The presenters have used a combination of trade data analysis and industry-level case studies to examine the link between regional integration and industrialization in southern Africa. Their research examines regional value chains in the garments, automotive, and food retail industries to better understand the opportunities for greater industrial development in southern Africa that could result from enhanced regional integration. The seminar gives national policymakers in South Africa an opportunity to discuss the potential policy pathways towards generating economic growth through a regional industrial policy aimed at developing deeper and more embedded private-sector value chains in the region.

SA-TIED programme partners, stakeholders, and government officials are invited to attend.

The seminar is based on SA-TIED Working Paper #38 and is a part of the work stream on Regional growth for southern Africa's prosperity.
