Scoping workshop on climate change

Within the framework of Southern Africa — Towards Inclusive Economic Development, the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) is initiating work on regional adaptation and mitigation strategies to climate change. A Scoping Workshop which will be held in Pretoria, South Africa on February 4, 2019. Targeted participants for this workshop are technical experts, national government agencies in Southern Africa and researchers from the research team, academia, international research organizations, funding agencies, and other stakeholders.

The aims of the Scoping Workshop are

  1. to present the status and progress made to better understand the effects of climate change;
  2. determine the potential climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) from agriculture and land use change sectors;
  3. identify practical and doable activities on adaptation and mitigation strategies that will define the research agenda for 2019 including set of deliverables within a defined timeline; and
  4. solicit feedback from the policymakers and donor agencies to ensure that the identified strategies address the priorities of the governments in Southern Africa encompassing poverty alleviation and nutrition and food security particularly in the rural and vulnerable communities including children and women.
