Presentation of SA-TIED Working Paper on worker mobility and productivity spillovers
Carol Newman, co-academic lead for SA-TIED's Workstream 1 on Enterprise development for job creation and growth, will present an SA-TIED Working Paper titled "Worker mobility and productivity spillovers: An Emerging Market Perspective" at the University College Dublin, School of Economics Seminar Series on 12 April 2024. The paper utilizes matched employer-employee data from South Africa to investigate the extent of technology transfers between firms through worker mobility. It suggests that investments in firm-level training initiatives could serve as an important mechanism for future technology transfers.
Carol Newman, a Professor in Economics at the Department of Economics, Trinity College Dublin, and a Non-resident Senior Research Fellow with UNU-WIDER, co-authored the paper with Ayanda Hlatshwayo (National Treasury, South Africa), Friedrich Kreuser (Kings College London), and John Rand (University of Copenhagen).
