SA-TIED present at the TIPS Forum

SA-TIED researcher, Sofia Torreggiani of the University of London SOAS will present new research at the Annual TIPS Forum. The TIPS Forum is held annually in South Africa to deepen understanding of the role that trade and industrial policy plays in the process of development and industrialization. This year's forum hosts policy makers, researchers, and government officials over two days to explore original research relating to technology and innovation in industrial policy.

The event is hosted by SA-TIED programme partners Trade and Industrial Policy Strategies (TIPS) and the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) in partnership with the South African Research Chair in Industrial Development (SARChI Industrial Development), the Delegation of the European Union to South Africa (EUD), the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and Development Bank of South Africa (DBSA).

Sofia Torreggiani presents the upcoming SA-TIED Working Paper, Dancing with dragons: Chinese import penetration and manufacturing performance in South Africa, co-authored with Antonio Andreoni, during the parallel session on Industrial Policy and Innovation. The presentation, entitled, "Chinese import competition and manufacturing performances in South Africa: dynamics, impacts, drivers, and policy implications" will take place at 11:45 in Room 2 and is based on research undertaken as a part of the work stream on Enterprise development for job creation and growth.
