SA-TIED
SEPTEMBER 2024

In September 2024,SA-TIED Research Assistant Anna Marie Oosthuizen contributed research to the discussions leading up to the Medium Term Budget Policy Statement (MTBPS), delivered on 30 October 2024. Her work focused on the reforms needed to strengthen water security and drive economic growth, emphasizing the role of sustainable infrastructure investment in ensuring long-term resilience.

As South Africa continues to face increasing pressure on its water resources, the research highlighted policy considerations for improving water governance, investment efficiency, and long-term planning. Addressing these issues is crucial not only for safeguarding water security but also for supporting industries, communities, and overall economic stability.

This contribution reflects SA-TIED’s role in providing evidence-based insights to support economic and environmental policymaking in South Africa.
