SA-TIED Training: Personal Income Tax Microsimulation Model (PITMOD)
SA-TIED will host the second round of Personal Income Tax Microsimulation Model (PITMOD) training from 17 to 19 February 2025, designed for personnel at the South African Revenue Service (SARS). Led by Prof. Michael Noble from the Southern African Social Policy Research Institute (SASPRI), this three-day intensive workshop will provide participants with a deeper understanding of constructing and managing PITMOD input datasets using Stata and administrative data.
PITMOD is a key microsimulation tool that assesses the impact of personal income tax policy changes on revenue collection, income distribution, and taxpayer behavior. This training will equip SARS officials with the technical expertise needed to strengthen PITMOD's role in tax policy evaluation and support robust, data-driven decision-making.
Focus areas:
- Preparing and managing administrative tax data in Stata
- Constructing and refining input datasets for PITMOD
- Applying microsimulation techniques for tax policy evaluation
This training is part of SA-TIED’s broader efforts to support capacity building in tax policy analysis.
